That was an idea. Kayak tour around Marjan hill in Split. Super fun and easy. Ten year old packed, my trinkets in the backpack and off we went for an easy walk (1,5 km) through the pine woods to the Bene bay on Marjan peninsula. There we met friends, unpacked kayaks and started rowing. I am not very experienced kayaker, but have spent some days of my life in sea kayak and must say these were the most comfortable and easiest to use kayaks ever. (just a tip: if going on a sea kayak tour, take a sit in kayak, and take prion). We were rowing along the coastline seeing all the beaches all the way to Sustipan with one break at the beach and one coffee break at Jadran pool, and than same way back.
Perfect few hours on an idle Saturday.

Just minutes by highway from Split you immerse in the spring awaken nature. Don't worry if you missed the spring. Summer days hike here is one of rare that offers deep shade of forest, and autumn gives you miracle of shades of yellow and red.
Walking just some half hour brings you to first ridge with small church of the sailor protector. From here the way takes you higher revealing unique views that are just vaguely interpreted by photo.
After about one and half hour walking upwards you come to a small mountain hut where you can enjoy some homemade tea or prepare something you brought with you, or simply eat from the back pack. Resting in this serene valley is just what you need to prepare your self for spectacular high point just half hour away.

Perun, the highest God of the Pantheon of the Slavic mythology  is mostly connected with thunder and bolts. Just some minutes from the city of Split we find a place of significance in Slavic mythology with one of the very few remaining stone plates with carved Perun.

Plate representing Perun and Velun on church in Žrnovnica.

In Slavic times, places honoring the Perun were always located in areas with valey with river set just under hill or mountain. In Žrnovnica, passing just some steps away from the church we find river Žrnovnica and opposite is the beautiful hill of Perun. Tipycal dalmatian dinaric  offering breathtaking mixture of white, green and blue.
Place where you feel like being with gods while walking or biking and savoring the breathtaking views.

Perun is rarely visited as the hiking or biking tour.  Lacking the attitude local people forgot to enjoy in the stunning beauty of it's rocks, great oak trees (another Perun mark), violet of blooming Iris flowers (localy called Perunika), red of the roofs in old villages and all shades of blue.
Hiking from south face of the hill to the top and passing to the north side the deep blue is quickly replaced by the deep green. This is one of the places  where you still find real Dalmatia.
Walking through old villages where time stands still, seeing people tend to their land the old fashioned way, visiting numerous old churches and chapels, tasting the traditional simple foods from konobas, enjoying WINE from the local winemaker, as here the wine is life and every respectful household has its own wine.
