Dalmatia is part of Croatia along the Adriatic Sea. Mainly coastal area with mountains separating maritime part from the hinterland. Rugged coastline and thousand islands were interesting to different states throughout the history, leaving us today with vast area of unique beauties and exceptional testimony of past times.
The coast, famed for its scenic beauty and its resorts, has many bays and excellent harbors protected by a chain of islands. Although Dalmatian rivers are mostly not-navigable, they supply a lot of experiences, like canyoning, rafting, kayaking, hiking. Agriculture, fishing, and tourism are the principal economic activities undertaken by Dalmatian people. Scattered island offer extraordinary sailing opportunities and sea experience.
Dalmatia covers territory of 11 960 km2, where about 855 000 people are living in mild Mediterranean climate surrounded by natural and historical beauties.

Maraschino is authentic liqueur from Zadar region. In the 18th century it was exported to all European countries and was found on tables of kings and queens, and even on Roman Pope's table. Salt produced traditional way in Ston and Nin salt-works is purest in the Mediterranean. Makarska is home to the Shells Museum with largest collection of shells and mollusks in Europe. One of the last place in Europe where the griffon vulture lives is on island Cres. The oldest public theater in Europe is in Hvar and was built in 1612. Golden horn beach on island Brač is one of the few beaches which changes it's shape as the wind changes. |
