Destination - North Western Province
The North Western province is bounded by Botswana on the north and has an area of about 105’000 km².
Most of the province is flat grassland, spotted with a wide range of indigenous trees. One of the most famous mountain range in the North Western Province is the Magaliesberg, which extends about 130 km from Pretoria to Rustenburg.
The capital city of the province is the historical city Mafikeng, which played an important role during the Boer War (1899-1902). Close to Mafikeng visitors can find the Lotlamoreng Cultural Village, which tries to re-create a traditional African village.
The North Western Province also offers some national parks. The largest one, the Pilanesberg Game Reserve, is located in a crater of an extinct volcano.
The majority of the economy of the North Western Province is mining, followed by the crop-growing regions that produce maize, sunflowers, tobacco, cotton and citrus fruits.
